In Real Estate 101 one of the first things you learn is to make sure that EVERYONE you know and EVERYONE you meet knows what you do....I remember what now seems like a century ago writing out cards as a newly licensed agent and including a business card letting everyone know I was ready for whatever came our way in listings and real estate sales. (Not of course realizing what experience does....and how unprepared I REALLY was !)
I didn't wear a name tag to the grocery store...we don't wrap our cars full of logos or put our business cards in with our credit card at the restaurant. We do engage in one on one conversation (a seemingly lost art in these days of texting and emailing) and get to know people...who they are...what they need....and who we are and how we may be of assistance.
I can't say how it started...signature gestures just seem to take on a life of their own..and when you have found one that "fits" .....it becomes a natural sort of thing that you do every time the occasion presents itself.
Our "Signature Gesture" is a Cupcake ! It's not just ANY cupcake....it is one from a special bakery that measures about 10"across and almost a foot high...the decorations vary and now that we know the baker...we can request special cake and decoration to match the occasion. Now...what is an occasion ? Hmmmm....It might just be...and has been....an appointment wtih a doctor or dentist who has gone above and beyond and offered us the kind of service we think we deliver....personal and professional.
It might be...the Sellabration of signing a listing contract...it can be a sweet remembrance in soooo many ways and it is ALWAYS remembered ! So much so that Doctors, Lawyers (no Indian Chiefs...YET) have taken time out of their busy day to call and personally thank us for having gifted them with this sweet surprise...which of course was accompanied by a few business cards and ended up in the break room of the medical practice.
Do yo have a signature ? How best are you remembered to referral sources you may not have considered in the past ? You know of course that the next step is that they are added to our data base of purple envelopes and get our snail mail "trademark" purple envelopes ! In between cupcakes they have some "crumbs of real estate wisdom" to remember that we are the people to call for all things real estate in southeastern Wisconsin.
