Relocate to Wisconsin : Kitchen Remodeling - A Chilling/Chopping Addition

Kitchen Remodeling - A Chilling/Chopping Addition

We are firm believers that when you build or remodel, the features you choose should be those that work best for your lifestyle.    We remodeled our ktichen (a project that began with "I need a new refrigerator" and ended with knocking out Our kitchena wall...adding a walk in pantry,  island and window).  We thought we had "checked all the boxes" and had the perfect kitchen for how we live and entertain.

We have a second kitchen downstairs that is used for entertaining on our exposed lower level and another large  freezer that we stock with home made soup and whatever we have time to cook "in quantity" for days when we do not.

Our remodeling included a double door sub zero refrigerator  with lower freezer drawer pictured  here behind the island.  It became stocked full of everything from the rare leftover to an assortment of beverages and condiments...and got rather crowded...what's a gal to do to expand the space...?

There was also the issue of Chopping....cutting....where I had depended on built in cutting boards in our former kitchen, that was abandonded in the new design.  Yes we do have all kinds of chopping "equipment" but I still missed my cutting board....a great stress reliever for my "alternate passion" as I refer to my cooking "hobby."

GOT IT.... a combination chopping station and beverage refrigerator !  Yaaaah...problem solved ! Things to consider in this addition were the material for the chopping block...researched to find Bamboo being the best solution. Chopping station space after the remodel so it was important to find the right size refrigerator that was useful but did not appear "added" and did not extend into the window at the end of the cabinet.  Googling for size and quality appliance...we found just the right size and capacity.

We had our "handy person sChopping block toptain a piece of cherry wood for the exposed side of the refrigerator and raise it to counter height so the "new addition" would be at"at home" and appear built in....and so it is !  Seen here getting ready to add lemon/lime twists to our water at dinner with friends.

A little thought and you can have a "multi purpose" addition with a built in look...chopping station and beverage refrigerator in one unit ....we love it...enjoy it !

Beautiful kitchen, remodeling as in building it seems we get it done and realize we forgot something.  Like I tell my clients no home is going to be perfect, but get the things that are high on the list and you will love the home.

Putting good thought into a remodel will make the home more usable and enjoyable.

You did a beautiful job on your kitchen.

I will not let my wife see this post as I see how getting a new appliance can expand the wish list.

The kitchen is looking great and I agree with you, when remodeling, one needs to take into account practicality for today's lifestyle.

Good morning Sally and David, you did a great job with the remodeling of the kitchen and the bathroom. Not easy to do when you're living in the home but rewarding.

OH, I LOVE IT, Sally! You guys did a beautiful job and you're right, you have to take into consideration your lifestyle. With all of the entertaining you do, this is now the perfect kitchen!

I love the wine cooler/chopping block top - very creative, yet highly functional.

Happy Sunday Hansons Both!

Love it... a kitchen remodel is on our to-do list too. We are hoping to find a time when it's least disruptive to the other members in our mult-gen home. You did a great job - and love your custom chopping station. D

Sally and David my wife and I also remodeled our kitchen about 3 years ago.  We have limited space so a lot of thought and shopping around went to what we did.
