One of the most unique parts of having divorce as a niche is that you (the real estate agent) are the only person who can talk to ALL parties involved...both lawyers and as we call them the "bride and groom" and sometimes other professionals involved in a divorce case. What his attorney tells you is not what he tells her attorney...what either attorney tells you may not be what they tell the judge.....and but of course...the Bride and Groom have different stories...that's a given....if they could agree on one...they may not be getting divorced !
Another very cool thing about this niche is that once you develop the expertise...your phone rings quite automatically and you expand your sphere of influence to other professionals and the beat goes on...and your business grows...not overnight as some "coaching classes" forecast....but it does happen if you continue to nuture it.
We were recently referred a case and the only answer to get the mortgage out of both names was to short sale the property. The mortgages were piled past the chimney and that "hoped for equity" when the judge ordered YEARS ago to refinance or sell was not going to happen in this lifetime.
We understand that it is a very difficult time...even or maybe more especially "post divorce" when old wounds are opened....the arguements are renewed and it the "bad and the ugly" begin again. We encourage people to take notes...to record our conversations because like with any other "new" news that is traumatic...it is difficult to take it all in at one time.

OH YICKS....yes we agree IF we had said that we would be the "Stupid Realtors"..!
Get it in writing...record it...sleep on it...ask every question that comes to mind and know that your Lawyer had your best interests at heart....and not with "Stupid Realtors."
