Relocate to Wisconsin : Thanksgiving Reflection.....

Thanksgiving Reflection.....

Three years ago our Thanksgiving changed forever...our lives changed forever....My Mom who had been living with us for the six months before that....Passed away.

My now ....former...Sister and Brother were here from California...we sat at the table and held hands and gave my Mom, then 92 years old, permission to leave...she wanted to ...and now she had gotten to say good bye to all her children...and to David who was every bit as much a child to her as any of us.  We had decided we would go into her room candle remembranceand let her know that we loved her....and that she had our permission to leave us now. Those are words easier to say than they are to live....and as I came into her room first...she had just left moments before.

For reasons I will not detail and are too painful to ezpess....the family as I knew it for a lifetime was irretrievably broken.

I write this not for sympathy..or to dampen your own family celebration.  I write it to tell each of you who has a family that surrounds you this know and appreciate that ...savor the moments, take pictures, make memories and from David and Sally Hanson...our precious family of two....we extend our best wishes for you and yours this holiday weekend.

Sally and David saying the final good-by to a parent or anyone close to us is not easy.  My wife and I have lost both our parents, but we were their to give our final good-by to both her mother and my father.  That was not an easy experience to go through, and an experience neither of us will ever forget.

Hope you and David are able to spend time today with those closest to you today, and give thanks for the blessings you have, especially the blessing of being with them.

Though you didn't go into that much detail I remember that story when you and I spoke once before.

While easy for me to say, that is as comfortable a way to go as any, I suppose.

My parents have been gone for over 4 decades.  And like you, we find ourselves alone this Thanksgiving.  But no problem!  The food and thanks will be just as good.

Hope you have a wonderful day and cherish the good memories of your Mom.  People let the least important  things in life control their lives.

Good morning, Sally and David -- holidays are filled with memories.  Some are happy while others are sad as your thoughtful post shows us.   Thank you for the caring attitude and approach to life you share with us everyday.

Hi Sally and David.  It's always difficult to deal with the loss of a loved one.  But, our memories can keep them in our hearts.
