Relocate to Wisconsin : A Golden Lesson From the Olympics

A Golden Lesson From the Olympics

This  is the week ...when you have a lump in your throat, a tear in your eye and overwhelming joy in your heart as you watch the dedicated Olympians reach and surpass the goals they set.  Records have been broken...Heroes emerged, Legends created.  So many magical, memorable moments captured for all of us as we watch Olympic history being made.

While there aOlympian Letterre many moments that are now etched in athletic history....there was a story that struck me and bears repeating if you missed it during the games.

Ryan  Murphy, a 21 year old swimmer from Florida and now a student at the University of California - Berkely,  "crayoned" his parents an affirmation at age 8 "...I want to be the best swimmer in the world."  He illustrated his Olympic wishes with a "selfie" showing himself wearing Olympic gold. On Monday night, he fulfilled his Selfie winning the gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke.

At age 8, he didn't call the artwork he gave his parents his "vision board" but that is what it was...and I would bet like many others who excel in their field...that practice of writing down goals is part of the success plan.  It has to be done regularly...reviewed...maybe tweaked...empowering what works and discarding what does not. Exploring new training to strengthen a choose your own decide what for you is the gold medal and the ascent to the podium.

Writing makes it real...the imprint of success on your subsconscious and the plan that follows those positive steps to achieving your goal. The written word has power...use it .

Unwavering focus....discipline...a vision board impressed on his subsconscious to be fulfilled over a decade later when he stood on the podium and was awarded the prize he had desiredRyan Murphy as a child.

It's never too late in the year...your career...your life to express your goals...and impress them as Ryan did colorfully, on your subconscious mind.  Choose your words carefully...see your goal precisely...use present not future tense verbs in expressing your desires.

Design your path....choose your journey,  accomplish your goal. Enjoy your Success. And so it is.

A great analogy, Sally and David. So many athletes have overcome major obstacles to reaching success... and they should be a lesson and inspiration to us all.

I am loving the personal interest stories that area being shared. Michael Phelps is a strong lesson in turning your life around and getting a refocus.

HI Sally and David, such a touching story about determination and finding your way in life.

My daughter wrote something in her yearly school memories book and years later when she graduated from that particular study she mentioned that she had written that goal down as a small child. Sure enough, we looked back and there it was. I didn't remember because as a parent we had other goals in mind for her.

One needs to have a goal. Then what does it take to reach that goal needs to be planned and reviewed. One will eventually attain that recognization.

Great blog, I hope it gets featured.

Sally and David:

A very insightful post.  It is amazing that Ryan knew what he wanted at such an early age and kept striving for it as he aged.   I am happy to hear that he swam for Cal.  Go Bears.
