(pronounced Ash a pin) . The name is Indian for raccoon which is what the Indians called the river flowing thru the eastern part of town. The town has the Ashippun River and Collins Lake and was once dense forest land that settlers used to construct log cabins.
The topography was formed by the glaciers with rolling hills, some large rocks as well as kettles dotting the landscape. The census bureau indicates that the town is 35.7 square miles in size with just .1 of the area being water.
In the shadow of Waukesha County, Ashippun is in Dodge County. Downtown Milwaukee is a 45 minute ride, and Madison about an hour.
The population of Ashippun in 2000 was 2,308. The town is served by several school districts including the Oconomowoc Area Schools as well as students in the eastern part of town who attend Hartford Schools and students in the northern part To of this area attend Neosho schools.
