Celebrate Earth Day April 22nd...Count the Ways....

Celebrate  Earth Day...April 22nd....

It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wisconsin) in 1970 earth dayand is celebrated annually throughout the world.

 

       Earth Day 2010 can be a  help  to everyone on the planet to  advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs.  It is an opportunity for individuals, corporations and governments to join together and create a global green economy. Join the more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day.  Here are some suggestions….Please feel free to add to the list…..and Spread the  word….do what you can…not just on Earth Day…but  every day…the environment we save IS our own !

 1.

Re-usable Bags
Utilize reusable bags for all of your shopping. Keep a supply in your trunk or back seat, ready to use.

 2.

 

Plant a tree or other plant 
  Increase the eye candy in your  neighborhood…add oxgen…beautify the landscape and the air !

 3.

 

Water Bottles
Use refillable bottles and a water filter for your water

 4.

Recycle, Re-use and Repurpose
 Do one of these three things with everything you touch and help reduce waste

 5.

 

Turn off lights 
Use power strips for phone and other chargers, computers and other energy depleting appliances - the strip can be turned off and on easily

 6.

 

 

Use natural cleaners when possible from baking soda to vinegar and lemons
  Check websites for some great ideas on cleaners that work and are good for the environment

 7.

 

 

Pay bills online

Save money, paper, stamps, checks..click !

 8.

Save water and energy
Turn water off when brushing your teeth, monitor the setting on your hot water heater; use shower heads that conserve water

 9.

Save gas
Have your tires filled to the proper pressure, plan your errands  efficiently

10.

Storing food
When saving food items, place them in reusable containers

 

  The "green changes" you make to your home can be popular selling points as consumers become more aware and concerned about the environment and cost savings with energy efficiencies...GO GREEN !

  You too...what if each of us did just one thing.....and told just one person who did one thing...and the one things became something we could all be proud of in saving the planet. How coool is that !

Great tips guys!  The only one I don't do is number 7 paying bills online..I know I know...I gotta get with the times on that one!

Earth Day was founded the year I graduated from high school. And I remember it. Today people take it for granted but back when I was in school there was no such thing as Earth Day.

I didn't realize Earth Day started so long ago!  I'm doing most of the things on the list already.  I'm way too old school to pay the bills online, though.  I need to pull out the check book and the bills and do them by hand.
