One of the more expensive parts of owning a printer for your computer is not the printer or the paper or the maintenance...but the speed at which the ink cartridges empty and the cost of replacement. A study was done recently that determined that different type faces use more ink. From the school of "All Things Common Sense" if you look at these two examples you can easily see the difference.
Century Gothic – Legible sanserif typeface – uses about 30% less ink than Ariel
Ariel – Legible…Type has more density and uses more ink
My attempts to make this a Font-tastic blog have failed...not able to graphically capture the differences...but i know you will find them....make it a Font-tastic Day !
Be kind...to the environment...your wallet....change your style...and save !

I'm all for saving ink and $$. Thanks for the post. I will change my font and have a font-tastic day today...
Interesting post about going green with your fonts. I use an inexpensive HP laser printer model vs the ink cartridge printers. I find it efficient and cost effective for saving both on printer costs and paper.
We got a new printer and the difference in the replacement cost and frequency is amazing ! Never considered the change in fonts till I read this article...enjoy !
They now have a font (sorry, forgot it's name) that was developed specifically to save ink. Not a solid body but done with dots that appear to be solid on paper. Supposedly saves tons of ink.
Huh....maybe we should google...dot font ...
Wow!!! An easy and useful tip after I just shelled out another $100 for ink just last week. When I was buying the ink, the clerk mentioned that new printers are cheaper than replacement ink cartridges, and I agreed....but recycling all those printers makes me cringe, too! Plus paying good money to companies who rip you off isn't exactly a great reward system either. Changing over now. Thanks.
Gabe, I'm going out to check on that font.....
Great idea ....I have a color laser printer and it is pretty efficient....but boy are the toner cartridges expensive!!!
Yes Great idea but... The cost to manufacture ink isn't really that costly, it is just a major profit center for them. So if this catches on the price might go way up, so ssshhhh keep it quiet and save while you can.
What a great tip! I had no idea, but that makes perfect sense! Great way to extend the life of those blessed cartridges!
it's never the cost of the printer...it IS the cartridges....gee Kris...never thought of blessing them...does that help ?:)
I read about this study...those dang cartridges are soo expensive!
Buying a new printer with "longer life" cartridges turned out to be better for us....that was our first consideration in choosing a new one.
