Muskego is a Waukesha County suburb with an estimated population of 22,851 and a land area of 31.2 square miles . The name Muskego, like a lot of cities in Wisconsin, is the derivative of an Indian word, in this case from the Potawatomi Indian name for the area, "Mus-kee-Guaac", meaning sunfish. The Potawatomi were the original inhabitants of Muskego.
Muskego is home to three lakes, well known to residents throughout Milwaukee and Waukesha county; Big Muskego, Little Muskego and Lake Denoon. The lakes are glacially formed kettles with Big Muskego the most shallow averaging just four feet in depth and covering an area of 2,260 acres. Little Muskego best known for all the recreation it has to offer – swimming, boating and fishing covers an area of 560 acres and the shores are home to many residents. Lake Denoon, shares its shores with neighboring town of Norway in Racine County, the next county to the south, and covers 162 acres.
Muskego has five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. The system prides itself academically with National Merit Scholars as well as excellence in music and athletic programs/
