Relocate to Wisconsin

Clocks? Check. Smoke alarms? Check. Carbon monoxide detectors? Check. Fire extinguishers? Oooops.

Our favorite California home inspector has one more wise word to start the spring season...fire extinguishers can be life savers....inspected, recharged and ready...as we should all be for spring !

Via Russel Ray, San Diego home inspector (Russel Ray, Property Consultant):

My owner is a home inspector in San Diego, CaliforniaI'm hoping that by now everyone has set their clocks forward one hour to begin Daylight Savings Time.

Well, except for our friends in Arizona who continue to be stubborn, obstinate, mulish, obdurate.... Heck, even Tijuana finally came around to Daylight Savings Time and they aren't even in the United States! ☺☻☻☺

I'm also hoping that everyone, whether or not on Daylight Savings Time, replaced the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, or took this opportunity to install carbon monoxide detectors if they didn't have them.

Fire extinguisherI'm also hoping (I do a lot of hoping, don't I?) that everyone, again whether or not on Daylight Savings Time, has at least one fire extinguisher in the home and that it has been inspected/tested/recharged within the last 12 months. If not, it's time to do that, too!

If you look at the picture of the fire extinguisher above, you'll see that white tag on it. That's the inspection tag. Zooming in on it, it looks like this:

Fire extinguisher inspection tag

You can see that the last time this fire extinguisher was inspected was July 7, 2009. You can also see that there is a punch next to Annual Maintenance Performed. That means that this thing really does need to be inspected annually.

If you live in a condominium complex or tower, remind your HOA to have the fire extinguishers checked. I find that too many HOAs are negligent when it comes to ensuring that their fire extinguishers are ready to use if required.

I'm also hoping.... Not really. I just wanted to see if you would stick with me through one more "I'm hoping" paragraph. ☺☻☻☺

Please make sure that the one in the boat/camper is also checked and charged. In the middle of the ocean is no place to find out.

Also the shed is a good place for an extinguisher.

Enjoy the day

Fire extinguishers are particularly important now as the weather improves at the Jersey Shore and thoughts turn to grillin!  I think you might have a little winter left up in your neck of the woods!

Hope all's well!

Arizonans don't have candles and don't need DST.

Check the history of why Franklin suggested this little feature for our summer days...
