St.Francis is the smallest fully incorporated city in Milwaukee County with a population of according to the 2000 census of 8,662 people and a median family income of $49,896. Bordered on the east by Lake Michigan, south by the City of Cudahy and north and west by the city of Milwaukee, this little city enjoys some claims to "fame" by virtue of the manufacturers headquartered there. A portion of the lakefront on the eastern border of the city was purchased a few years ago and is now a condominium complex with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and units beginning as small as a studio.
The city is also home to the headquarters of the Catholic Church in the Milwaukee Archdiocese with the Cousins Center and St. Francis Seminary facing Lake Drive. The School Sisters of St. Francis also maintain a convent in the area.
The city has 3 schools; St. Francis High School located on Lake drive right at the border of St. Francis and Cudahy,; the middle school which is Deer Creek located in the former center of St. John School for the Deaf and Willow Glen Elementary School.
