Decisions Decisions…What Kind of Decision Maker Are You ?

Whether you are a lender, realtor, manager, buyer, seller, appraiser, lawyer….or in an unrelated field, you make decisions every day ….of various sizes, natures…that have consequences and rewards and we are closely involved with people who make big decisions as well.  Sometimes our buyers, sellers, lenders, professional networkers,  etc., want our input into their decision making process. Our experience may be different, more educated, from a different perspective, etc. than theirs and they value the expertise as a vital ingredient in the decision making mix.  This short series will help you identify methods and means for making good decisions and/or being in the capacity to advise others.decisions

Anyone can learn to make better decisions….and you can recognize the kind of decision maker that  you are  working with in a transaction, your office, your family, friends, management, etc.

First of all…the Cardinal rule of all decision

     making…The Best Decisions  are Made

                    From A Position of Strength.

 - Unfortunately, sometimes when we have to make a big decision is at a time when we feel least able to make the decision.  We see this in short sale sellers, realtors who are unsure at this juncture, this is their best career path. People with health, relationship and other conflicts and challenges that impede the decision making process.

- The best thing to do when you recognize for yourself…or to the level that you are able to advise others…advise them to get advice from the highest and best sources.  That may mean not parents, boyfriend, co-worker, landlord, neighbor, sibling. It may mean..an experienced : doctor, lawyer, realtor, remodeler, home inspector, etc. Is the advice given based upon what the advisor will receive…more business, commission, fee…and ONLY that criteria ?   Run ….Run….!  A successful professional in any field…does not need that surgery, tooth extraction, lawsuit, listing or closing to meet their overhead…they are giving advice from their highest and best position which may mean it isn’t  just “all about them” but is in what they believe is in the best interest of the person being advised.

If the only thing you learn of value from reading this series is the first cardinal rule, you have learned a  lesson that can prove to be valuable in many aspects of your life…for a lifetime.  Long blogs are hard reading…tasty nuggets of knowledge are more easily absorbed…this is the nugget for today…enjoy and absorb.

D & C. Great point. A friend of mine is married to someone who has to make a decision to make a decision if you can figure that one out. Right brained? Definitely not...

Just listened to a Bible talk yesterday and it was about "Choosing Life"  It was all about how in our daily lives we regularly choose life and death, either things that will make us healthier and happier and moving forward to everlasting life, or just the oposite....

GOOD MORNING SALLY AND DAVID!  Not "over-thinking" things helps with decision-making - but whatever decision one makes - it should be with confidence!  Thanks for the short post! -- Gabrielle

We all have to make decisions on a daily basis. I have been with people who cannot make a decision. That must be a tough life. Are you going to make the right decision all the time? No. I have made bad decisions when it comes to people. However, I have learned from those decisions by not doing it a second time.

All great leaders figured out the decision making process early and used it to their gain.  Some people struggle with just the "making the decision" decision. These people usually make repeated bad decisions, but cn never figure out why.

I used to date someone....it will be another blog...he blamed it on being a "Libra" and having to weigh everything....his decision was invariably.....not to decide.....learning by doing is the best....having the strength to move forward....awesome.

Wonderful perspective.  Some decisions in life need only to be made once.  Then when the situation arises, no decision making required.  Just move forward.

Hopefully that includes the person you married...the college you chose...but if not, there are remedies and life lessons to be learned...a friend of mine, on her 4th husband, believes that practice makes perfect !
