Located on the eastern edge of Waukesha County, Brookfield was incorporated as a city in 1954. Housing is a blend of turn of the century homes and upscale sub-divisions and condominium complexes. EDUCATION IN BROOKFIELD - ELMBROOK SCHOOLS
Brookfield is home to the prestigious Elmbrook School System. The system has students from the city of Brookfield, town of Brookfield, Village of Elm Grove and a portion of the City of New Berlin. The system includes six elementary schools (K-6), two middle schools (7-8), 2 high schools (9-12) and one special education school. The system ranks among the best in the state. Of the largest state school district, Elmbrook continues to spend the largest amount of dollars per student while maintaining low property taxes. The ratio of students to teachers in the district is 15 for elementary school and 10 for high school. Approximately 83% of Elmbrook high school students plan to attend college.

Elmbrook Memorial Hospital, founded in 1969 is a 166 bed licensed acute care hospital that services over 5,000 patients annuallyu in emergency and general medicine, surgery, ambulatory care and women's health. The city also has a variety of conveniently located clinics that house both general practice and speciality medical fields.
